In Her Own Words
About 15-years ago, I started a tour business, Belle Vue Tours, with my husband Hogarth that focuses on historical, cultural, and adventure tours to Haïti. After years of struggling to find a travel bag that suited my needs, I decided to design one myself. I wanted to create a bag that is a conversational piece. I wanted that conversation to focus on the unsung female heroes of Haïti and later the men who were instrumental in creating the state of Hayti*, so I decided to honor their memory with THE LIBERATORS travel bags. These bags are created as an educational and inspirational travel bag lines to highlight the women and men who helped liberate Haïti and whose actions impacted the world. On the night of 22 to 23 August 1791, in Saint Domingue, today the Republic of Haiti, saw the beginning of the uprising that would play a crucial role in the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. It is due to the actions of THE LIBERATORS that the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is commemorated on 23rd of August of each year. This Global History and some of its actors should be known worldwide for unlike the American and French Revolution, it is only the Haitian Revolution that proclaimed true revolution and liberty did not leave room for chattel slavery; and that equality had to include people of all races.
Our target audience are the weekend adventurers, international explorers, business travelers, and those on daily quests for more in-depth experiences. These travelers value cultural immersion, local traditions, and meaningful connections, embracing spontaneity and a richer understanding of new places. They are conscious in their travels and daily movements, always looking to educate, inspire, and celebrate the significant contributions of Black individuals, especially from Haiti, to the Americas and the globe. I engage with them mostly through different social media forums and face-to-face events.
